Born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Bethel grew up in Houghton, Michigan, listening to country and 70s rock, drawing inspiration from Tom Petty, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Willie Nelson and others. She spent her teenage years performing across the upper Midwest before self-releasing her first record at age 17.
